My Absolutely Certain to Be True 2014 NFL Predictions... IN REVIEW!

Mike Vick. He got hurt, but remained a class act.
Last September I wrote these predictions. The premise was simple: The talking heads at ESPN are really not the experts they claim to be. With almost unlimited resources, a ton of experience, and a job that requires they be football fluent, they rarely do any better at predicting seasons, games, or positional proficiency than a fan (me) with a solid knowledge of the game. Here's how my predictions turned out, and they seem to support my theory.  I was 66% accurate, and one field goal away from the 75% mark. Let's review. Today's comments are in brackets.
  • Divisional Winners
    • NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles. Michael Vick will have a career year in Chip Kelly's offense. [Got the team right, but it didn't work out for Vick.]
    • NFC North: Green Bay Packers: The Aaron Rodgers machine marches on, continuing it's reign as the most boring air attack in the history of football.[Correct. Grrrr.... they beat Da Bears]
    • NFC South: New Orleans Saints or anybody but the Falcons. [It was ANYBODY but the Falcons. Saints didn't take the division, but they did make the playoffs.]
    • NFC West: Seattle Seahawks. [Yep.]
    • AFC East: New England Patriots. As long as Tom Brady stands, the New England Patriots will win. At least most of the time. [Correct and correct.]
    • AFC North: Baltimore Ravens. [I got this so wrong, but I'm happy about it. Not a Flacco fan. Cincinnati won the division.]
    • AFC South: Baltimore Indianapolis Colts. Andrew Luck will dominate. [Baltimore Indianapolis did win, Luck didn't dominate, but he was good enough]
    • AFC West: Denver Broncos. [Correct. Very boring.]
  • NFC Wild Cards
    • San Francisco 49ers. Kaepernick is still damn good. [Correct]
    • Chicago Bears. [Incorrect. Sob. New Orleans is in.]
  • AFC Wild Cards
    • Pittsburg Steelers. [An OT field goal from being in. Instead it will be the Chargers.]
    • Houston Texans: The Texan snooze-fest will finish 10-6, but very few fans will be awake to see it. [Correct on the snooze fest. Couldn't have been less correct on the record. Kansas City made it, which is a good thing. I like Andy Reid and Alex Smith.]
Overall, I did pretty well. I predicted a Philly-Denver Superbowl, and that could still happen, although it seems more likely the NFC rep will be either the Seahawks or the 49ers.

See you tomorrow, when I get back to more blog posts on writing, self-improvement, gaming, and other stuff that I haven't thought of yet.
