Here's What You Need to Read, Watch, and Play

I need to keep it short today. It’s a busy week. I do, however, want to throw down three, widely disparate, micro-reviews. Therefore, without wasting any more pixels, here they are.

Judas Unchained by Peter Hamilton. I love Peter Hamilton; I have since the 157th page of the Night’s Dawn, but he isn’t an easy read. Judas Unchained is no different. The final book in the Commonwealth Saga, Judas Unchained has vibrant, tactical battles, mysterious killers, and just a bit of humor.  At 884 pages of small print, it is no light read, but the effort that you put into it will be time well spent.

The Strain. Based on the trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, this TV series is surprisingly good. It’s about a vampire apocalypse. You gots your vampires, your nail guns, and your silver swords. Better still, it’s all reasonably well acted. What’s not to like?

Heroes of Normandie (HoN). New by Devil Pig Games, HoN is a tactical combat game that is long on personality. The title is simple to learn, and plays well. Make no mistake, no one will ever call this game a simulation, but it looks good, presents interesting tactical decisions, and has a Cthulhu expansion in the works. Too bad the French company didn’t have a native English speaker proof the rules.

Mark H. Walker served 23 years in the United States Navy, most of them as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal diver, he is the author of Desert Moon, an exciting mecha, military scifi novel with a twist, with plenty of damn science fiction in it despite what any reviewer says, as well as World at War: Revelation, a creepy, military action, with a love story, alternate history, World War Three novel thing, and numerous short stories. They are all available from Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing right here. Give them a try. I mean, what the hell?
