Are You Productive, or Just Busy?

This isn’t my blog post. Well, it is, but I think you’ll soon see what I mean. I’ve been following Darren Hardy for at least six years, and a subscriber to his Success magazine for almost as long. He’s intelligent, practical, informative and motivating.

As you can imagine, one of the magazine’s key topics is productivity; what enhances it, and what kills it. And do you want to know something strange? Being busy is not productive. In fact, being busy can be the deceitful archenemy of productivity. We’ve all had those running-around-like-a-chicken-with-its-head-cut-off days. The do list is a mile long, but we stick to it, crossing everything off, accomplishing each mission, and at the end of the day, what do we have to show for it? Sometimes it’s nothing. Yep, the office is dusted, or the yard mowed, but did we make any progress on the big stuff, the stuff we dream about? Did we write a page on our novel, design a scenario for a game, reconnect with that long lost family member, or take a step toward establishing our own business? I know that often my answer is often no.

Darren Hardy’s blog today is on the topic of business versus productivity. It not only has his thoughts, but those of some of the most successful folks on the planet. Go read it

Mark H. Walker served 23 years in the United States Navy, most of them as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal diver, he is the author of Desert Moon, an exciting mecha, military scifi novel with a twist, with plenty of damn science fiction in it despite what any reviewer says, as well as World at War: Revelation, a creepy, military action, with a love story, alternate history, World War Three novel thing, and numerous short stories. They are all available from Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing right here. Give them a try. I mean, what the hell?
