The Five Greatest Love Stories of All Time

This is a repost of a several years old entry. Most of you guys and gals weren't reading this back then anyhow, and it's one of my favorite posts. Enjoy.

1. Serendipity: One of two romantic comedies I have willingly watched again. Kate Beckinsale can play a strong-willed vampire, terrified imprisoned tourist, and John Cusack’s Bohemian love interest with equal aplomb. On the other hand, Megan Fox plays an appendage growing out of Shia Labeouf's hand. Guess who gets the most press? There’s something wrong. Incorrect or not, this movie perfectly captures the uncontrolled chaos of life and love. It’s just so cool when the glove comes floating down.

2. Blackhawk Down: People pontificate, swoon, and flap gums about  and over the men and woman who fight for our freedom. Let's be clear, men and woman don’t fight for our freedom; they fight for their friend crouched in the next foxhole over, they fight to save the life of the man they have known only a few short months. “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” That is the love story in Black Hawk Down, and it might just be the best ever told.

3. When Harry Met Sally: If only every romantic comedy was this funny, this heartfelt, this real…and had a woman convincingly faking an orgasm. The humor is worth laughing at to boot. “You know, I have a theory that hieroglyphics are just an ancient comic strip about a character named Sphinxy.”

4. King Kong (the cool, Peter Jackson version): I knew it was going to happen, but I hated it. I was so mad when they killed Kong. Love, no sexual tension, just pure love. The fight scene with the T-Rex was pretty BA too.

5. Le Mans: Love is not just about people. Some of the happiest people I’ve met have not only a passion for their loved ones, but also life. Steve McQueen, in life and film, had a passion for racing (real racing...not the kind where the drivers only turn left and need to be subbed out on road courses), passion best exemplified in this line from Le Mans, “When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting.”

See you tomorrow.
