On Best Friends, Destroying Los Angeles, and Something to Believe In

Okay, I'm gonna get to every last thing that I promised last Thursday. It's all coming, and more.

Maybe I'll toss in a joke to make the game gab more palatable to the blog's non-gaming fans. God knows, if you don't game, you need something to brighten your day.

I watched Best Friends Forever (BFF) this morning. Conceived by Brea Grant, and birthed by

Kickstarter, BFF is an apocalyptic buddy road trip movie. Or something like that. Two twenty-something women, one a comic book artist recently released from a mental health care facility, and the other her best friend, head to Austin. Behind them the apocalypse, in the guise of a nuclear detonation, strikes Los Angeles and three other cities.

I liked the movie. Brea and Vera Miao were great, the three hipster dudes they meet, less so. Did it have flaws? Yeah, I guess so. Did Man of Steel have flaws? Oh. Hell. Yeah. And that exclamation comes from the pen of a huge Zack Snyder fan boy.  Of course, BFF's flaws only cost about $81,797 dollars, Man of Steel cost approximately 300 times that, give or take a couple of multiples. If you are a bit geeky, maybe someone who likes comics, loves books, hates senseless reality TV, and cheers the underdog, you might like Best Friends Forever too.

But don't flip the switch yet. Even better than the movie is the idea of the movie, the concept that a talented group of writers, actors, and film people can produce something they believe in, heart and soul. As a writer of three self-published novels, and founder of a semi-successful game company, I cheer when people create for the sake of creating.  Do what you love. The money will follow.
