I'm too Stupid to Game and Other Thoughts

Big week coming up. In addition to the usual game designing, developing, writing, and chores associated with preventing the house from collapsing, I'm also putting together a Heroes of Stalingrad press demo for the multitudes at Historicon. Oh yeah, did I mention that I only have three days to do all this? Whew!

Nevertheless a have a couple of quick thoughts to share with you today.

Thought one: I might be too stupid to game. This is a somewhat of a shock to me. I've been gaming--serious games, such as Avalon Hill's Tactics II and Gettysburg--since I was nine years old. I loved it then, and I love it now. Unfortunately, I don't log as much gaming time as I once did. My day is kind of full. I'm up early (about 5AM), I stretch/meditate/pray for about fifteen minutes, read for about forty-five, then write the blog. A full day of work ensues, often followed by a little lawn mowing/house maintenance. By the time dinner is eaten and dishes are washed, it's often eight in the evening. And that's where the stupid part comes in.

When eight o'clock rolls around, my brain functions at about 40%, and 40% just isn't enough to plough through a game of World at War (Sorry non-gamers, you'll just have to follow the link).
On the flip side of the coin, my Facebook timeline is bombarded with stories of my friends late-night game sessions.

I don't think I'm busier than any other adult my age. We all have jobs, chores, and responsibilities, so I'm guessing these other folks are equally tired, their brains are equally drained, yet they still game on. There's only one answer, 40% of their brain power is much greater than 40% of my brain power. My logic is irrefutable.

Or am I just tired?

Thought two: Writing on an iPad can ruin your typing skills. The damn autocorrect is so efficient that I simply stop worrying about capitalization and apostrophes. When I sit down at my PC, I can no longer type.  Just another example of Apple's insidious plan to rule the world.
