A River Runs Beneath It. My Early Morning Creep Out

The Avatar.
A River Runs Through It is an absorbing movie that has almost nothing to do with this post. Almost. The sentence, however, haunts my mind. We live a life of coincidences. Ever forget a ten-year old pop song, and then hear it on the radio four times in three days? Has there ever been a name you didn’t know existed? Something odd, perhaps Thale. Then you discover the name in an obscure novel, and subsequently meet someone named Thale two days later?

I believe a river runs through our lives, just below our conscience, and these coincidences, strange occurrences, and  (sometimes) things that go bump in the night are glimpses of this river. The river rose this morning.

I just finished a short story in which weretrees exist. You know, like werewolves, but trees. Led by sort of a queen tree. Yeah, go ahead and laugh, my wife did, but then when I recanted the plot she smiled.

“That’s a pretty damn cool story.”

It is, but that isn’t the point. I finished the story last week. Obviously, it is unpublished. Only two people know it exists. This morning a young lady liked my Facebook page. Here is her avatar. Do you hear running water?

Mark H.
