Thirty-four Down, One to Go
A little over a month ago, I got this crazy idea to blog every day. If you have been following along, you already know that decision was birthed by the cook Julie Childs, her relationship with Amy Adams, and my passion to 1) write, and 2) be recognized as not only a designer, but also a novelist. Hey, I guess I’m just greedy.
It’s been a challenge. You see, part of the deal was that this couldn’t be done during the work day. I already have too many folks yelling at me about ATZ’s lateness, Ring of Hill’s tardiness, Not One Step Back’s failure to immediately launch, or stridently demanding to know why a handful of the counters for Heroes of the Blitzkrieg—a game with arguably the best counter and map art ever produced in this niche genre, a game with high-quality, beautiful mission cards, a game with well-tested, exciting scenarios, a game with mounted, wrap around game boards (not paper or lame-tailed cardboard), a game with all that—why a handful of the counters are not square. We aren’t talking impressionistic trapezoids, we are talking a millimeter. When punched out of their counter sheet, I can’t tell the difference. But hey, the gamers might have a point. Maybe its time to go back to the garish pink and blue NATO symbols of yesteryear. The heck with artistic immersion, at least you’ll be able to true your level on the counter edge.
I’m just saying.
Anyway, back to the blog.
So, finding time to squeeze this around the edges of what is already a full day has been a challenge, but squeeze I have. On top of that, I've really had a lot of fun doing it.
Now we are at the juncture of 34 days down and one novel to go. Beginning tomorrow, I begin posting my next novel, Everyone Dies in the End, or maybe I’ll just call it, Everyone Dies. I won’t know until tomorrow morning.
The novel will be serialized online, and I’ll post new chapters at least three times a week. That’s a change from my original intent, in which I named Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as the posting days. Frequency will be the same, but my workload will determine the exact days. I’ll keep at it until the novel is finished.
Additionally, I’ll sneak in a non-novel blog when possible. It could be on anything, as my previous posts have been, but more than likely, it’ll focus on the game publishing part of my life.
By the way, my guest blogging offer is still open. Want to guest blog? Drop me the column. If I like it, I’ll post it--fiction or otherwise. Wish me luck.
See you tomorrow...with a new book, and something called Nathan.
