Everyone Dies in The End

Today’s an out pattern, but interesting nonetheless. Let’s classify it as an out pattern that’s just enough for a first down. I apologize if that confuses my European readers. I promise to level the playing field with obscure soccer and Formula One references latter in the week.

I’ve noticed that other authors list book signings in their blogs. Since my list of book signings would be very short, like so short that there wouldn’t be one, I decided to list the blog’s plan over the next few weeks. That’s almost like a list of appearances, correct? Sort of like Amy Adams listing a broccoli and cheese dinner.

As I’ve alluded to earlier, I’ll be participating in the National Novel Writer’s Month in November. Furthermore, I’ll be posting the novel, as written, here on the blog. My original plan was to post every day. That, unfortunately, won’t happen. My day job, which is game design and publishing, consumes too much of my time. I wedge my writing into the cracks and crevices.

Make no mistake, there are enough cracks and crevices in my life to fit a 50,000-word novel in one month, I almost made it last year, reaching 45K words by the deadline. That, however, was an unedited, stream of conscious-type gaggle of words that eventually morphed into Revelation. Not prose that was fit for Internet viewing. This year, I’ll not only need to write, but edit what I write before publishing—a slower process. So, here’s the plan.

Beginning October 31st I’ll post the novel as I write it every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, every week until it is finished. It doesn’t matter if it is completed in November or July.

“But wait a minute,” cries John Madden as he bursts through the screen of your computer monitor (another American football reference). “October 31st isn’t November, and it isn’t a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.” It is, however, Halloween, the second best holiday of the year. A great day to start a military-horror-adventure novel.

It took me many years to write A Craving for Blood, 16 months to write Revelation, and now I’m trying to wrap a novel, what I hope is a good novel, in 1-3 months. I’ll need your help. Even more so, I'll need your encouragement, advice, and input. Although I know the outline of the story, I’m wide open to suggestions. Want to see a character die, two characters fall in love... whatever? Let me know, it might just happen. I’m even open to submissions. You want to write a chapter? Do it, send it to me, if I like it, it’ll go up, with your by line. So for now I’ll leave you with the title, in a slightly larger font, just because I have a bit of an ego.

Everyone Dies in the End –a novel.

See you tomorrow.

This sounds like fun, Mark. Can't wait to follow along. I'm going to have an intense month myself, but it will be nice and inspiring to switch gears and read your progress on your posting days. Good luck!:)
