Three Bad Ideas and a Very Good One
Okay, I admit it, I'm a little tired today. When I'm tired, I get grumpy, but really. I mean really? This is a four-idea post. Three exemplifying our mad rush to grab the new, anything new, if it's new it must be better new, and one idea, kindness, that isn't new, just timeless.
Polar Vortex: Like much of the Midwest and East Coast, I'm in the icy clutch of the (cue manly voice with an echo) POLAR VORTEX (uncue voice). Sure, it's cold as hell, which is an oxymoron, but nevertheless... Here in Virginia the low was one, flipping degree. That. Is. Cold. But what is with the name? Can't we just say, "It's going to be really cold tonight," without cueing the loud, manly voice.
Facial Recognition TVs: I don't need a TV to recognize my face. In fact the idea creeps me out. Neither do I want the TV to suggest shows. How about this, Panasonic? I'll just turn the TV off, and read a book.
Curved Cell Phones: Do we really need this? What good is it? Do we need a curved cell phone so we can slip it into our back pocket, sit on it, and not crack the screen. I guess when I think about it, that isn't such a bad idea.
Suspended Coffee: This is an idea that we DO need. Here's how it works. Next time you buy a cup of coffee, pay for two. Participating restaurants track these coffees. A person in need can walk into the coffee shop and ask if they have any suspended coffees. If they do, the needy person gets a free coffee. We so need more of that, not Polar Vortex's, facial recognition TVs, or curved cell phones.
See you tomorrow.
