On Mashed Potatoes, Presidential Mascots, and Super 64.
My brain feels like mashed potatoes this morning. Without
the gravy. So I'm going to keep this short, I just want to get a couple things off
my chest/brain/whatever.
Redskins. The team mascot is what it is. No one is trying to
disparage American Indians. It seems we are all looking for something to get
angry about. I will say this about that. When President Obama has solved his
health care plan problems, formed a consistent foreign policy, and pulled all
American service members out of harms way, then he should weigh in on team
mascot names, and probably not even then.
And please don't think this opens the door for overly
opinionated Obama haters/lovers to weigh in. It's not so much a comment on
Obama as it is a comment of the severe warping of American politics. Team
mascots are now important to the alleged leader of the free world. Really?
And speaking of relative importance, October 3rd passed with
nary a whimper. For those who forgot, it was the 20th anniversary of the Battle of Mogadishu. Eighteen American soldiers died in that battle, and another
seventy-three were injured. Another
example of our inability to commit to a coherent strategy (i.e. what the hell
were we doing in Mogadishu? )
before we commit our service members. A total of 92 casualties, and most of us
spent the commemoration day whining about how much we need to pay for cough
syrup, or the name of a football team.
And that is a comment about our current leaders. Of whom
less than one percent have served in the military.
