The Week in Review. On Alien Invasions, Emily Blunt, and Uganda's Gay Policy

The week in review. I swear that time slides by a little faster each day, a warning sign that we should spend every minute we can with family and friends. It’s been over a week since I posted, and I’m off to the beach on Wednesday. I don’t know if I’ll get a lot of posting done there, but I might put up a few pictures of beer bottles.  Anyway, this is what I was up to and thinking in the past week or so.

Our Finger in Everyone’s Pie
Gay marriage is illegal in 33 states. The Texan Republican platform supports "reparitive therapy" (attempting to turn gays hetero), yet how would we feel if Great Britain (for example), levied economic sanctions against us for our backward approach to homosexuality? Indignant? Angry?

Probably.

Then what right do we have to employ economic sanctions against Uganda for their stance against gays? It's not a gay rights thing, it's a what-right-do-we-have-to-mess-with-another-country's-internal-policy thing.

The “How failed can a failed policy get? Department

Okay, after we conquer Iraq in 2003, we spend eight years supposedly training the Iraqi military. Now we're sending 300 military advisers because THAT will make a difference? Obama haters back off. It's not an Obama thing it's an our-government-doesn't-have-the-tactical-sense-of-a-2nd-lieutenant thing.

Movie Stuff
I saw Godzilla a couple of weeks back. Bryan Cranston was—honestly—unbelievably bad. The giant lizard was great. Loved the blue fire. Keep ‘em coming. I’ve also taken in Edge of Tomorrow. For Cruisefiction it wasn’t bad, although I’m not sure why alien races attempt to conquer a planet with little more than speed and horrifying looks. Surprisingly Blunt and Cruise clicked well, and I felt something for their characters. I don’t know who
Blunt’s trainer is, but he/she isn’t paid enough. She looked fandamntastic, and I don’t mean in the typical low-browned, v-necked sexy way. I mean in the ultimate fitness way. The definition in her arms and shoulders was stunning.

Book Stuff
Just reread Abnett’s Honour Guard (English spelling, not mine). Fantastic science fiction. Of course he’s trying to make military realism out of a completely unbelievable (yet cool) universe. If you want to see what he can do outside of the 40K world, read Embedded.

More later.

Mark H. Walker is the author of World at War: Revelation, a creepy, military action, with a love story, alternate history, World War Three novel thing. It's available from Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing right here. Just $3.99. Give it a try. What the feth?

In a low brow way - she was HAWT.... ;) I REALLY enjoyed that movie. What's not to like Groundhog day with guns and aliens.
