What is Home? My Daughter's Guest Blog.
Today we have a guest blogger, my daughter Jessica. Tasked to write a piece about her home, this is what she came up with. I love it.
I Am From
by Jessica Walker
I am from the oldest ridges that are blue,
a barn home, painted for Halloween.
I am from bare foot shoes, badmitten matches,
and Dare Devil Drop.
From algae cleaning, shoe pickuping,
and kindling collecting.
From tail waggers, tea pots, books,
and board games.
I am from candle lit dinners filled with George Winston,
and “This is the best food I’ve had in America!”
From not making the volleyball team, to passing the ball to my father and he would say, “Don’t worry what other people see, worry about how good you can be!”
From the teen who wanted to leave the county, to see the world,
and fell in love with T.Rex.
From playing pretend, thinking outside the box,
and making culinary art.
I am from leaving Tiger Mountain to become me,
then finding part of my soul, carried on the back of a butterfly,
and landing back at Hill House.
From a younger sister that is Arock in my life,
and an older sister that is an inspiration.
From cherished memories, a loving warm mother,
and a strong live life father.
I am from protectors, guiders, and
encouragers.
From hugs that I dislike, but crave,
and extended family that keeps growing closer.
I am from the house, Hill House, Tiger Mountain, Franklin County.
I am from Home
