The World at War Game System. What's on Tap.
I thought it might be time for a World at War update. It’s
been about seven months since the last World at War boxed release (Eisenbach
Gap Deluxe) and almost a year since there has been new, boxed material (America
Conquered). The reasons for that are as varied as they are irrelevant. What is
important is what we have on tap for the near future. I want to keep it “near”
because anything longer than that gets real fuzzy, real quick.
Scheduled for printer delivery in mid-spring is the World at
War Compendium Volume 2. Jeff Lewis is running the show on this, as he did on
the first compendium. This iteration will include 80 pages, 32 scenarios, and
176 counters. Additionally, the World at War timeline will be extended to the
invasion of America ,
aggravating unimaginative types everywhere. Right now it doesn’t look like
there will be any maps, nor will the counters for the South African scenarios
be included.
Line of Fire 15 will also introduce new World at War
material including two more scenarios for Matt Lohse's Baltic Storm. And for
.50 cal fans everywhere, there will be a new M113 ACAV formation.
The reason not to include the South African scenarios in the
World at War Compendium Volume 2 is a good one... they will become their own,
complete, boxed module. I'll take the original Line of Fire scenarios and
counters, and flesh them out with a couple of scenarios to rule/end them all. Included
will be Cubans, Soviets, South Africans, Americans, FAPLA, and more. Additionally,
the module will include a campaign comprised of several new scenarios. This
will be a persistent campaign, and the results from one mission will be carried
into the next. There might even be a branch within the campaign, triggered by
winning or losing a specific scenario.
Mark H. Walker is the author of World at War: Revelation, a creepy, military action, with a love story, alternate history, World War Three novel thing. It's available from Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing right here. Just $3.99. Give it a try. What the hell?
