The Scalzi Initiative
As some of you might know, John Scalzi is a science fiction
writer of some repute. In fact, since he makes his living writing/consulting,
I’d say that he’s a writer of major repute. His Old Man’s War is a great book. I’ve read it. I haven’t read the
others in the series. Not for lack of desire, but rather lack of time.
Most importantly, his blog, Whatever, is one of the most widely read blogs on the Internet. He
started it in 1998, and he has been posting semi-daily ever since. That’s
fifteen years, seven hundred and eighty weeks, or five thousand four hundred
and seventy five days, if you are into numbers. It’s a lot of posts, and the
posting has garnered mucho readers. Something like 50K unique visits a day. Scalzi
posts about everything and anything, politics, writing, his new living room
furniture. Whatever.
Back to the page you are reading. Julie and Julia birthed
the idea of this daily blog, and now it appears that Scalzi has breathed new
life into it. So here you go, from now until August 25th, I’m giving
an almost-daily blog a shot. Some of it will be on writing, some on the super
niche industry of board gaming, some of it on life and everything that entails.
Like the title says…book writing, game designing, and life living. More or less
everything. Sort of like Scalzi. I hope that I can do as well. Maybe I’ll learn
to write longer sentences. Maybe not.
